INJECTORS

INJECTORS

Injectors are among the most expensive parts of the engine. Low quality “cheap” fuel usage may end up with costly breakdowns, causing a blockage in these sensitive parts.

Many people own a vehicle with loans or with money they have saved for many years. Whatever happens, that vehicle is valuable for the owner. Then why people often neglect to take care of their vehicles? The answer may be high maintenance costs and other expenses. Cheap and low quality fuel choice, using the fuel tank to the bottom and disruption of maintenance may cause injector issues in many vehicles. However new generation engines that don’t have any flexibility for such mistakes, give the first breakdown at the fuel system. Fuel system breakdowns may cause high expenses in fuel engines while these expenses exponentially increase in diesel engines.

LOW QUALITY FUEL USAGE

Diesel engines operate with the fuel-oil, sprayed by the injectors onto the compressed air while in fuel engines the fuel sprayed by the injectors and air are mixed inside the burning room of the cylinders and then ignited by the spark plugs. So in both engine types, injectors complete the process. Thanks to the Common-Rail system that is widespread in recent years, fuel consumption in diesel engines has decreased compared to the past, with an increase in the performance while low emission figures are possible. These new generation engines that provide lower noise level and vibration are used to work with quality fuel. But still it’s possible to see low quality fuel usage in many places. Liquid or solid materials found inside the low quality fuel in non-standard fuel-oil fill the fuel filter than they are piled up on the thin spray holes of the injectors. Turning the warning light on, clogged injectors lower the efficiency of the engine.

This situation is more optimistic in fuel engines and may end up with more affordable costs. However the cost can reach up to 2 – 3 times higher in diesel engines. In order not to face such costs, the vehicle should be serviced when the exhaust gas turns black. Instead of this, keeping low quality fuel usage would clog the injector nozzles.

To prevent such issues the most common precaution would be injector cleaning. The fuel injector cleaning should be done in 40.000 km for fuel engines and 25.000 – 30.000 km in diesel engines. After the cleaning, filling the fuel tank before running out of fuel would prevent possible problems. In diesel engines completing the periodical maintenance and especially replacing the fuel filter on time would be helpful for usage efficiency of the injectors.
